Extremely interesting itinerary as regards both the environment
and the history of the area. The run starts at the main Campomulo
refuge (see starting post) and gradually rises to reach the
Saddle (1624m) and then Casara Fiaretta (Malga dei Sogni).
Shortly afterwards, you reach a vast clearing with an extensive
view of the most famous mountains of the GreatWar. After a
short but steep descent and a longer climb, you reach the
Fiara wood. An extremely varied route then leads to Malga
Boscosecco. The track continues to climb until it reachers
a fork with the track to the right leading to the main itinerary
(red) at Pra Campofilone. Bear left along a track which flattens
out and winds through the wonderful Mitterwald wood until
it reaches the Boscosecco spring after two km or so. From
here, the track goes up and down several humps and crosses
Busa di Terre More and Busa di Pettine until it reaches the
turning for Monte Forno. Turn left here and climb up into
the midst of constantly-changing landscape until you reach
the turning (1937m) at the head of the Galmarara Valley. Here,
the view is breath-taking. Turn to the right and after climbing
one km up to a ridge, you reach the Italia turning (1987m).
Here the track points towards Mount Ortigara, in a desert
of snow, with alternating depressions and hillocks, skirting
Peak XII and Peak XI, passing round Mount Campigoletti and
reaches the top of the mountain (2106m) 7km later. The summit
is dominated by the commemorative stone placed there by the
Italian Alpini Association. The view of the Dolomites is wonderful. The
descent to the Malga Moline (about 3 km) is difficult or very
difficult and cannot be maintained by the snow ploughs due
to the great difficulties encountered by the vehicles in this
section. From Malga Moline, the track goes down again to the
main refuge for the red circuit. If there is too much snow,
it is best to turn back along the run and take the track towards
Malga Moline at the Mount Forno turning (see the description
of the Valsugana circuit). In this case, the circuit is 36km
long.
